St. Stephen's RZUA Church stands as a testament to the enduring legacy and spiritual heritage of a faithful congregation whose roots run deep within the Bracey community and beyond. For generations, this church has served as a place of worship, fellowship, Christian education, and community service, touching countless lives through the ministry of Jesus Christ.
As a member of the Reformed Zion Union Apostolic (RZUA) Churches of America, St. Stephen's is part of a Spirit-led, Bible-rooted apostolic fellowship committed to proclaiming the Gospel, strengthening believers, and building communities of faith. To learn more about the history and mission of the RZUA Churches of America, we invite you to visit the denomination's website at rzua.org.
Under the dedicated leadership of Rev. Dr. Lewis Knight, St. Stephen's continues to be a place where generations gather to worship, grow in faith, and live out the mission of Christ together. While the church embraces the opportunities and challenges of the present, it remains firmly anchored in the faith, sacrifice, and perseverance of those who came before us.
The sacred ground upon which we worship is also a place of remembrance. The St. Stephen's Church Cemetery serves as a living testimony to the many men, women, and children whose lives helped shape the history of this congregation and community. With more than 125 memorials recorded on FindAGrave.com, the cemetery reflects generations of faithful believers whose legacy continues to inspire us.
Among those resting in the church cemetery are Brother Alexander Baskerville (1853–1925), believed to be the earliest recorded burial at St. Stephen's, and Brother Lynard James Baskerville (1900–1991), whose life and witness remain a cherished part of our history. While these individuals represent important milestones in the church's story, they stand alongside many others whose devotion, service, and sacrifice helped sustain this ministry through the years.
We also honor the countless members, ministers, deacons, missionaries, trustees, ushers, musicians, and church workers whose contributions strengthened St. Stephen's but whose final resting places may be located elsewhere. Their faithfulness, prayers, labor, and commitment remain woven into the fabric of this congregation. Though not all are buried within the church cemetery, their impact on the life and ministry of St. Stephen's continues to be felt by every generation that follows.
As we reflect upon our past, we give thanks to God for those who laid the foundation upon which we now stand. Their legacy reminds us that the Church is more than a building; it is a living fellowship of believers united by faith in Jesus Christ. Inspired by their example and guided by God's grace, we remain committed to carrying the mission of St. Stephen's RZUA Church forward for generations yet to come.
